Once you have determined that your study requires ethics review, the next step is to complete the TCPS 2 CORE Tutorial.
What is the Course on Research Ethics (CORE)?
CORE is a self-paced online tutorial that provides general background and awareness for ethical standards in research projects.
The tutorial includes 8 modules, each focusing on topics specific to conducting ethical research (e.g., history, ethical considerations, Research Ethics Boards (REBs), etc.). Each module contains readings, interactive exercises, and a final module test. After you have completed the tutorial and quizzes you will receive an email with a confirmation certificate attached. Completing the CORE tutorial will take, on average, a minimum of three hours.
Important! The University of Calgary has mandated all faculty members and graduate students to complete CORE training by 2015.
Everyone who submits an ethics application must present their TCPS 2 CORE Tutorial certificate of completion as part of the required documents in the IRISS application (see Step 3: Make an account through IRISS).
